Each Feast is God's Appointment with Us
"Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years." Genesis 1:14 NLT
The Hebrew word used in Genesis 1:14 for seasons is "moed", which means appointed time, place, or meeting. From the very beginning, God marked His appointments (like a save the date!) that we would know and be ready for His comings.
Leviticus 23 reads, "These are the Lord’s appointed festivals, which you are to proclaim as official days for holy assembly."
There are a total of 7 feasts known as Biblical holidays. These holidays serve as God's itinerary of times, places, and events that we might know and understand His plan for salvation as we celebrate each feast. Three of the seven feasts are clustered in the spring. These were foretold and fulfilled in His first coming. This foretelling is called prophecy and when we recognize their fulfillments, it strengthens our faith for today and gives us great hope in the promises yet to come. Some have not understood the spring feasts as signs, times, and rehearsals of His first coming and they miss seeing the full meaning within the redemptive work of Yeshua. In fact, Yeshua even wept when He arrived in Jerusalem to fulfill the spring feasts "because [they] did not recognize it when God visited [them]." Luke 19:44 NLT
Unfortunately, Jesus warns that He will come (the second time) like a thief in the night to those who do not know His appointed time. But, those who are children of the light will not be surprised. "But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief." 1 Thessalonians 5:4 NLT
Therefore, let's journey back to the former rain, winter rains that lead to the spring feasts. We celebrate these feasts in remembrance since Yeshua has fulfilled these Biblical holidays in His first coming. That is why He commands them at the last supper to "do this in remembrance."
